			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Douglas Ferguson is the Software Development Manager here at Escalation Point.</p>
<p>Douglas is an entrepreneurial technologist with extensive experience delivering enterprise-scale products, including product architecture, deployment design, implementation and maintenance. He is a passionate leader with experience building, managing, and motivating teams.</p>
<p>He attended Virginia Tech where he studied Math, Biology, and Chemistry. (I know. We&#8217;re impressed too.)  After graduating in 97&#8242; he joined Koz.com, an early social media company. While there, he built the community publishing software. In 1999 Douglas moved on to Coremetrics to work on their Data Acquisitions team. Prior to joining Escalation Point, he held various leadership roles at:</p>

<li>Epsiiaa Fiserv subsidiary,</li>
<li>RoadStory USA a hi-tech museum/attraction, and</li>
<li>Buzzstream a social/media marketing &amp; link building crm</li>
</ul>
<p>When Douglas isn&#8217;t building and motivating technology teams you are likely to find him with a soldering iron in hand or patching up his giant modular synthesizer in his hill country recording studio. He plays guitar in an experimental art punk band called the Tetrahedons and he engineers and masters records for local and international bands.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Welcome , Health 2.0&#8242;s newly founded Austin chapter! The group is just  getting started, and had the very first meet and greet last night at 219 West.</p>
<p>There&#8217;s been a lot of buzz about health in Austin lately, brought about largely by Senator Kirk Watson&#8217;s 10 in 10 initiative. <a href="http://www.healthyatx.org/" target="_blank">HealthyATX</a>, the Healthcare Special Interest Group for the <a href="http://austinama.org/" target="_blank">American Marketing Association</a>, and an Austin chapter of <a href="http://www.austinhimss.org/" target="_blank">HIMSS</a>, among others are raising awareness for the healthcare industry in our neighborhood, and we&#8217;re excited to be such a big part of the growth. Keep it coming!</p>

<p><strong>&#8220;Some Companies, Some Individuals and a Senator walk into a Bar…</strong></p>
<p><strong></strong>Well, in case you missed it, our inaugural meet-n-greet happy hour was yesterday. And it was a great success!  We lost count of how many people showed up overall, but there were <strong>50+</strong> in attendance over the course of the evening. Thanks to generous support from our sponsor for the night, <a href="http://www.wcgworld.com/">WCG</a>, we were able to keep the drinks flowing and the conversation going even after the event officially ended.</p>
<p>More than the number of people who showed up to meet and mingle, we were really impressed with the diversity of the crowd and the interesting backgrounds that people brought to the party.&#8221;</p>

<p>drawMD breaks down barriers of patient engagement by creating products that doctors use to provide personalized, easily-understandable information about conditions and treatments without costing doctors valuable time.</p>
<p>John Cox, CEO and President of Visible Health, the parent company of drawMD, says “Partners like Hologic are critical to drawMD’s success. Hologic’s sponsorhip allows us to not only reach more physicians, but allows us to provide even more detailed, medically correct stamps to use in images, creating a more thorough consultation experience and improving patient engagement and understanding. “</p>
<p>Using the iPad, OB/GYNs can create interactive visual guides as a way to explain complex issues and possible medical and surgical solutions. They simply select one of the detailed, anatomic images or upload their own and then sketch, stamp, or type directly on the images.  The images and stamps are preloaded into the app and are tailored specifically to each doctor’s preference. OB/GYNs can share the images with the patient with a quick click.  Saved files and emails can also serve as a permanent record of the discussion for office files and Electronic Health Records.</p>

<p>The author provides 30 ideas on low-cost ways to show employees that the company cares. Going through the list, I realized that we at Escalation Point have already implemented several of these ideas, in some cases in our own special way.</p>
<p>1. <strong>Flex time</strong></p>
<p>2.<strong> Innovation Days</strong> &#8211; can we get a picture of the team putting together desks for the office?</p>
<p>3. <strong>Fully stocked kitchen</strong> &#8211; One thing that you can say about our fridge is that it is fully stocked. College students everywhere would be impressed with our Tetris-like ability to utilize every square millimeter of space in our dorm fridge. We are in the market for something more spacious&#8230;</p>
<p>6. <strong>Free lunch (or breakfast) -</strong> We are located right at the intersection of tortillas and eggs on South Lamar in Austin. There are a ton of great places to get breakfast tacos around here, including our favorites: <a href="http://www.yelp.com/biz/casita-taco-austin" target="_blank">Casita Taco</a> and <a href="http://www.tacoxpress.com" target="_blank">Maria&#8217;s Taco Express</a>.  Hardly a week passes without me seeing that familiar brown bag full of foil-wrapped goodness waiting on the counter when I come up the stairs into the office.</p>

<p>9. <strong>No dress code - </strong>No suit, no sleeves, no sweat!</p>

<p>drawMD Female Pelvic Surgery is designed to aid a physician in improving patient understanding of proposed surgical procedures, or to help a patient gain better understanding of treatment options from their physician.  Pyhsicians can enter in patient’ email address and send the drawings discussed with a quick click.  Saved files and emails can also serve as a permanent record of the discussion.</p>
<p>drawMD is a suite of applications for the iPad that taps into the power of the mobile touch platform to help explain complex medical issues and possible medical and surgical solutions. Designed by two surgeons seeking to improve patient understanding of medical problems, drawMD utilizes the iPad’s unique interface to allow anyone to sketch, stamp, or type directly on the detailed anatomic images included in the application.
